Nelson E. (Nick) Brestoff
Nick Brestoff’s education includes a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering systems from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), a Master of Science degree in environmental engineering science from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), and a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Southern California (USC) Gould School of Law. In 2012, Mr. Brestoff wrote the first article about electronic preventive law, Data Lawyers and Preventive Law (Law Technology News, October 25, 2012). He also wrote Preventing Litigation: An Early Warning System to Get Big Value Out of Big Data (with W. H. Inmon), published in 2015. When he retired from practicing law, he had over 38 years of litigation experience. Then, after educating himself about AI and deep learning, he applied for and received the U.S. patents he describes here. Realizing that his readers would have very different backgrounds and business experiences, Mr. Brestoff is passing the torch and challenges his readers to come up with their own inventions using deep learning. He and his family live in Sequim, Washington.
