Stephen W. Brown
Stephen W. Brown co-authored the lead article in a 2005 issue of the Journal of Service Research on forming successful services in product-dominant firms. A related article was published in the Journal of Service Management in 2008. He is also the lead author of the Wall Street Journal article from June 22, 2009 on “Beyond Products: More Manufacturers are Branching out into Service Business.” His primary research and executive and MBA teaching focus throughout his career has been on service strategy and marketing. Dr. Brown is the Edward M. Carson Chair, Professor of Marketing Emeritus and Distinguished Faculty with the Center for Services Leadership at ASU’s W. P. Carey School of Business. He served as the CSL’s founding executive director from 1985 to 2011. He is also a former national president of the American Marketing Association. Professor Brown has co-authored and co-edited 23 books and over 100 articles on services and service-related topics. He has been identified as one of the ten most frequent contributors to the English-language services marketing literature in the world. He’s been awarded honorary doctoral degrees from universities in Finland and Sweden, and he received the Educator of the Year award from the Association for Service Management International. He serves as a speaker and workshop leader for conferences and business meetings around the world, most often featuring his work in helping product-dominant companies successfully grow profitable services revenue. Brown has co-founded three companies, and he serves on the board of directors of several corporations and a nonprofit organization.
