Ernest L. Cowles

Ernest L. Cowles is professor emeritus of sociology and past director of the Institute for Social Research at California State University, Sacramento (CSUS). He received his PhD in criminology from Florida State University. Prior to his appointment at CSUS, he served as the director of the Institute for Legal and Policy Studies at the University of Illinois for 10 years and interim director of the Institute for Public Affairs, Abraham Lincoln Center for Policy Studies for two years. He has received more than $25 million in research funding and has authored numerous publications and research reports.
