Javier Villar Burke
Javier Villar Burke joined the European Commission in 2008. Besides being involved in the creation and development of the new instruments to support European sovereigns under stress (e.g., the European Stability Mechanism), he regularly monitors the conditions of financial markets in general and of banks in particular. He has performed a number of analyses in the areas of public support to the financial sector, crisis management framework, and monetary policy, among others. Before joining the Commission, Javier worked for two years in a Spanish consulting firm and two more years for the Galician Institute of Statistics. He studied economics in Santiago de Compostela and specialized in European studies in the College of Europe.
